Journalling

There are many reasons why journalling in your scrapbooks is important.  It is the telling of the story of your photographs and memories.  When you look back at your layouts in years to come you may not remember all the names to go with the faces in the photos or where the photo was taken.  Take a few minutes to record these important details.

Journalling personalises your layouts by giving a date and place of the event as well as names of those in the photos.  It is good to be specific, but try to make it interesting as well as though you are telling a story, include your thoughts or feelings at the time.  Remember someone else looking through your album doesn't know anything about the details of the event.

Journalling can be hand written, typed on the computer or simply done with alphabet stickers or rubons.  You can write directly onto your layout, but you may find it less stressful writing it on a separate piece of paper/cardstock and adding it to the page.

Handwritten journalling is an extremely personal and individual aspect of each of us, I still love looking at the cards that my Nan has given me just to see her handwriting again.  Also you may not always have a computer on hand to do your journalling on, and even though we all say "I'll go back and do that later...." it is a job that is always put off so it is best to try and do your journalling at the time of creating your layout while all your memories of the event are fresh in your memory.

Here are some ideas that may help to get you started.

     Try creative writing
     A top 5 list
Tell it as a story to your children for them to read when they are older
     Use a quote
Some song lyrics may be fitting to your layout
Who, What, Where, When and Why

Always keep in mind the pen or ink that you are using and that it is acid free and archival safe, aswell as fade and water proof.
